Help for prisoners and their families

Prisoners Abroad is the only charity supporting British citizens detained overseas and their families.

If your relative is in prison abroad, you can call us on our Freephone number 0808 172 0098 or email [email protected]. Our friendly Prisoner and Family Support team are there to offer guidance and support.

Having a relative in prison overseas can often feel like you’re serving a sentence yourself. It can be a difficult subject to discuss with friends and family and can put a strain on the family’s finances and general well-being. On this page you can find out more about how we work with prisoners and learn about our family support services.

You may also want to look at our overseas imprisonment factsheets or our Frequently Asked Questions for more information about issues facing those detained abroad.

Our factsheet 'Helping families alongside the legal process' provides some useful pointers if you are looking for support or guidance around a relative's legal case.
